Mini-Conference for Technology
Teachers, held on Saturday 26 July at Herschel Girls
School, Claremont
The conference started with
registration at 08h00 in the Prep School Hall. Delegates
browsed through the various exhibits by suppliers and
publishers. Some learners work was also on display.
The time was well used by all to network with colleagues
over a cup of coffee.
Belinda Heidmann, Head of the Preparatory School, welcomed
everyone and wished all a happy, productive and successful
morning. During the chairperson’s address, special
mention was made of Andre Goosen, who was able to join
the group as a presenter on the day. He was thanked
not only for giving up his time, all the way from Prince
Albert, but for his foresight and drive in starting
the National Technology Association thirteen odd years
ago. Without his energy, vision, drive and constant
support, learning experiences like this would not be
taking place.
The programme for the day consisted of two sets of
workshops with a generic hour in between. The mainly
skills based workshops catered for all three phases
and as in the past was very popular. The generic session
had some very informative options to choose from. Bloom’s
taxonomy, and Multiple Intelligence & Technology
was thoroughly enjoyed as was the workshop on Assessment,
presented by Alistair Mather.
The attendance numbers were adequate, similar to 2007,
a pleasant surprise as there has been a few training
opportunities for teachers of Technology in the Western
Cape during this year. All in all it was a successful
morning with most teachers pre-booking their workshops.
As in the past several people enrolled only on the morning
of the conference.
The Technology Association of the Western Cape would
like to thank the committee in particular Lynne Mostert
and Margot Smit for their hard work to make the morning
possible. Herschel Girls School is thanked for the provision
of their facilities.
